Sylvia Perrins, CEO, National Skills Academy Financial Services, shortlisted for First Women Award
This honours the achievements of an inspirational woman who has demonstrated unparalleled creativity, resilience and talent within the financial business sector against a backdrop of challenging circumstances.
The awards held in association with Lloyds Banking Group, were created by the CBI and Real Business magazine in 2004 to recognise female pioneers across British business, professional and public life.
Sylvia is the Chief Executive of the NSAFS, an independent employer-led organisation and leading body for training and development in the financial services industry. She was promoted to CEO in April 2009 having previously been the National Director at NSAFS. In both these roles she set up and led NSAFS’s development from the launch of the organisation in May 2007.
NSAFS offers a dynamic skills solution for the financial services industry supporting talent development, up skilling and enhancing financial capability.
In January 2010, Sylvia was appointed as a Public Appointments Ambassador by the Government. In this capacity she encourages more women to join public boards and aims to nurture and support talented women develop their careers.
The shortlist success marks another important milestone in NSAFS’ goal to deliver skills and talent development to financial services firms across the country and financial education to thousands of consumers. As a charity, the organisation is deeply committed to the services it provides for the good of the industry, rather than financial gain.
Commenting on her nomination, Sylvia Perrins said: “I feel honoured to have been selected as a finalist in such a contested category. This is a great recognition for all the hard work undertaken not just by myself, but by the whole team.
“The value of being part of the First Women Awards recognises our work in providing unique industry partnerships during tumultuous times and opening doors to new opportunities for both non-traditional and work-based learners, such as apprenticeships and foundation degrees.”
Sylvia was nominated for the award by members of her team and must now face a judging panel on May 14th. She is competing against other captains of industry, including Chief Executives of large corporations.
The winner will be announced at a gala dinner at the London Marriott Hotel in Grosvenor Square on 23 June.
