Fatema found out how completing a course with the National Skills Academy for Financial Services (NSAFS) at Tower Hamlets College paved the way to getting a high profile job.

Fatema says ‘I didn’t take the traditional route to university so I just chose to go into applied training straightaway. If it wasn’t for the NSAFS I don’t think I’d be here in this high profile job.

‘The NSAFS courses I took at Tower Hamlets College were:

  • a Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) National Diploma in Business, equivalent to three A-Levels
  • a BTEC National Award in Personal and Business Finance, equivalent to one A-Level
  • a Certificate in Financial Studies (CeFS), equivalent to one AS-Level

‘I got 480 UCAS points from these qualifications and got accepted to all the universities I applied to but did not want to go to uni.

‘After completing my studies, I followed a FSA programme for four weeks where I worked primarily as part of the UK Listing Authority as a Junior Associate.

‘I then got offered a job to work in the CEO and Chairman’s office as a contractor. Before my contract was up I went to a few interviews and accepted this permanent position. I have been in my new job for four months now. I’m really enjoying and learning a lot.’
