What skills does the subsector need?

It is acknowledged that the sector is already facing skills shortages and that these are on the increase. A survey carried out by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) concluded that the UK education system does not appear to be delivering the quality of individual that the financial services industry needs.

Skills needs such as numeracy, understanding of IT systems, communication, self-motivation, as well as a good knowledge of the industry and insurance products are all relevant to the subsector. Technical qualifications are also a vital part of many job roles in the insurance subsector and are part of the continued professional development of those pursuing a career in insurance.
