Yorkshire and Humber

Yorkshire and the Humber has a strong concentration of financial services companies, particularly in the city of Leeds with a large number of companies and a wide range of different subsectors represented.

Leeds is a major centre for:

  • building societies and corporate finance
  • accountancy
  • banking
  • insurance
  • stock broking
  • retail financial services

Financial services is also important for other towns and cities in the Yorkshire and Humber region such as York, Sheffield and Bradford.

Due to the concentration of the financial services industry around Leeds, the Skills Academy’s lead training provider in Yorkshire and Humber is Leeds City College. The college offers a broad range of financial services, business and accounting qualifications and also leads the development of the provider network, which includes Babington Business College, Craven College and York College.

The National Skills Academy for Financial Services (NSAFS)’ strategy in Yorkshire and Humber is endorsed by its Regional Employer Board (REB), whose members include senior representatives from:

  • Leeds Building Society
  • Aviva
  • Tenet Group
  • Yorkshire Bank
  • CPP Group
  • YFM Group

Also represented are key stakeholders including the Learning and Skills Council, Yorkshire Forward, Financial Leeds, Leeds City College and Leeds Metropolitan University. The Regional Employer Board:

  • advises the Regional Director
  • informs and endorses the decision-making process
  • provides the voice of the industry in relation to skills development
