London

City of London has evolved into the fastest growing city in Europe and the world’s leading centre for international finance and business services. Despite the current challenges, it remains the financial centre of the world.

It is home to the headquarters of more than one hundred of Europe’s 500 largest companies, and 25 per cent of the world’s largest financial companies. More than 550 international banks and 170 global securities houses have offices in London.

London is the undisputed focal point for the investment and fund management and security broking sectors, with more than two-thirds of all employment in each, and is home to all the UK’s major exchanges and financial markets.

Banks, brokers, securities firms and insurers from around the world provide a massive pool of financial liquidity and human expertise.
Straddling the world’s time zones between Asia and America, London is unique as a centre where international issues and international markets dominate.

Extensions to the City, specialising in auxiliary services and financial advice, include Southwark and Islington. A great deal of employment in non-life insurance is concentrated around Croydon.

Beginning with a flagship centre in Tower Hamlets, the National Skills Academy for Financial Services (NSAFS) has occupied specialist premises within Tower Hamlets College since 2007. The initial focus has been to support employers in the City, Canary Wharf and East London due to its convenient location.

However, the London network now also includes Orpington College in the South East of the region so that a wider proportion of the sector can be supported and we are actively seeking to expand our coverage. Together, the training providers deliver a range of qualifications to meet skills needs within the variety of sub sectors.
