Farnborough College of Technology

Our Mission is to ensure that our students achieve foundation, technical or higher level vocational qualifications and skills, which meet local and regional skills needs and allow for progression from 14+ to Higher Education.

Farnborough College of Technology is a medium sized ‘mixed economy’ general further and higher education College, based in North East Hampshire on the borders of Surrey and Berkshire and linked to the South and West London by the M3 and the M25 corridor.  Courses are delivered on the main site in the town of Farnborough and at the new development ‘The Aldershot College’ which provides a venue for construction skills training, I.T. provision, essential skills and ESOL.

History

Farnborough College was founded in 1957 as a training wing of the former Royal Aircraft Establishment (RAE). We continue to have strong links with the aviation industry. Farnborough is also home to the world-famous Air Show, held every two years.

Farnborough College of Technology is recognised for setting standards of vocational excellence.

The College holds full CoVE status for three areas of excellence:
• Applied ICT for Business
• Skill Air which encompasses Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering
• Business, Accounting and Financial Services

The College offers a range of Foundation Degrees and Full Honours Degrees. All  awarded by the University of Surrey and we are justifiably proud of our close relationship with this University. Many of the degrees are offered on a part-time basis to fit in with working obligations.
Further Education courses are also offered to school leavers from across the area and we pride ourselves on preparing young people for the workplace or University.

Services to Business

In 2006-7 some 300 employers sponsored learners on professional programmes in accounting and financial services, management, marketing and HRM.  Among those employers, from the financial services sector were Zurich Assurance, Standard Life Investments, Standard Life Healthcare, Winterthur Life, Travelex Currency, the Personal Loan Company, Aon Consulting, and the Royal Bank of Scotland.

In December 2007 Farnborough College of Technology was selected to be the lead provider for the Southern Region of the National Skills Academy.

Given our long involvement with financial services and accounting, our CoVE status and work with the FSSC from its inception we were very keen to be involved with the Skills Academy.

Objectives

Our initial objectives for the Skills Academy are three-fold:

• To develop a quality brand committed to meeting the needs of employers
• To establish the provider network across a large and diverse region
• To develop a collaborative approach to meeting the needs of the sector

For us as provider we are eager to develop our involvement in the fostering of financial awareness amongst both young people and adults, to develop the new diploma in business and to develop apprenticeships in financial services. Central to these concerns is the need to deepen our relationships with key employers to enable us to address the full range of their needs.

We can provide various services to our business community with up to date training and support facilities.
