The role of the Board
The National Board will be responsible for setting policy and strategy, overseeing implementation and managing major sponsorship issues:
- Ensuring employer input and influence over the products, services and delivery methods
- Leadership, policy and strategic planning for the Academy network
- Securing national sponsors
Oversight of programme development - Oversight of quality and standards
- Approval of 'licences to operate' under the Skills Academy brand for Academy Support Partners and learning providers
- Approval of annual estimates of income and expenditure
- Approval of annual accounts
- Ratification of the appointment of the Skills Academy director
- Approval of any national contracts or major projects
- Oversight of the annual planning dialogue with the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) and regional partners
- Ensuring that the Academy meets DfES and LSC requirements and targets
- Consideration of major capital schemes by regional delivery partners and proposals for applications for substantial sums of match funding
- Monitoring the overall performance of the Skills Academy and its Director
